Immortal Teens

It was a tossup between Keanu Reeves’ The Day The Earth Stood Still and the teenage vampire drama, Twilight. While I fell in love with Keanu the moment I saw him in Speed (I mean, even with a crappy “Everybody on this side of the bus” dialogue, he still looked hot!), I was outnumbered. There are three teenagers in the house, and they just had to see the movie that all of their other friends have seen. So, there I was, after a day out shopping for Christmas presents, watching Rob Pattinson do his darned best trying to look like a smoldering Edward, waiting for him to get a juicy bite out of Bella and getting the show on the road. Needless to say, I was a bit bored. But then I looked at my teenaged kids and I could see that they were just caught up in the romance of it all, their eyes glued to the silver screen. And for a moment, I was a bit envious.

My teen vampire movie was The Lost Boys, with Kiefer Sutherland (24) and Jason Patric (Speed 2) and Corey Haim (Hey! Whatever happened to him?). At the time, the idea of being a teenager forever was woefully romantic. Just imagine the possibilities: you can stay up all night and still look luminous the next day, you can ditch the bra and still look hot, no worries, no responsibilities, no bills, no babies. But then again, you’d still be living with your parents, you’d still be thinking about where you are and where you’re going, and you would still not have the courage to tell Jeff, your crush, that you like him, not that I ever did. So, on second thought, I’d rather not be a teen forever, but firmer breasts would be nice.
